Seed Sharing Library

What is a Seed Sharing Library?

A Seed Library is a place where you can “checkout” seeds to plant in a planter, a pot, or your garden.

Do I Have to Have a Library Card to Get Seeds?

No. Anyone can come and get seeds from our Seed Library.

Where Do I Find the Seed Sharing Library?

Our Seed Library is located on the main level of the library next to the Card Catalog computer. It is housed in an old, wooden card catalog.

How Do I Check Out Seeds?

Find the seeds that you want. Pick up a Checkout Form. Fill the form in with the date, your name, your e-mail, and the numbers of each packet you take. (NOTE: You can checkout up to 5 seed packets.) Place the form in the purple bin on top of the Seed Sharing Library.

Is There a List of the Seeds Available?

Yes. There is a binder with descriptions of each type of seed. If it is not next to the Seed Sharing Library, ask a staff member for help.

How Do I Find the Seeds I Want?

All of the seed packets are labeled with the plant name, the year it was donated, and a number so you can look up more details about the plant in our plant guide.

Do I Return the Seed Packet or Any Unused Seeds?

You most certainly can, but you are not obligated to do so.

Can I Donate Seeds?

Yes, you can donate extra seeds you purchased and did not use or any seeds you collected yourself from plants in your garden. If you donate extra seeds, please include the original package, if possible. This helps us with providing more information to those checking the seeds out. If donating seeds you collected yourself, any information about the seeds that you can include would be helpful to us.
