Donations and Book Sale

Can I donate some of my unused books to the library?

We will accept donations of books in excellent condition. Any books donated in poor condition will likely be recycled. Books in excellent condition will probably be stored away for our annual Friends of the Library book sale.

Where do I bring my donations?

Drop them off with a staff member at the circulation desk. They will examine them and determine what happens with them.

Can I drop book donations in the outside drop box?

Technically, yes. But we would prefer that you didn’t. It can clog up our drop box and make things confusing for the staff. It’s best to bring them in during open hours and give them directly to a staff member.

What if I want the books back that you choose not to keep?

The best choice would be to visit directly with a staff member about that. They might be able to look through them immediately and make those determinations. Otherwise, leave a note with the books indicating that preference. Be sure to include your name and phone number.

Do you sell book ever?

Yes! Annually, usually in April, the Friends of the Gering Library hosts a week-long Book Sale in the Community Room. Books are laid out by category and new books are added at the end of each day to replace the ones that were sold. Prices for books are very low and all the money goes to the Friends of the Library to support the libraries programs.

How do I find out about the Book Sale?

Keep an eye on our Events page to see what we have coming up. You can also see upcoming programs on our Facebook page and our Instagram. If you want, we can add you to our email list to receive our newsletter. There will also be signs posted at the library well in advance with the dates and times.
