Homebound Delivery

What is homebound delivery?

If you are unable to leave your home or would find it very difficult to navigate the library in order to select some books for yourself, the Gering Public Library can select books for you (with your input) and deliver them to your home.

Who qualifies for homebound delivery?

Anyone with physical limitations from disability or advanced age, lack of transportation, or long-term illness, and have no one who can pick up books on their behalf, can request homebound delivery. Requests will be accepted at the purview of the library staff.

How do I request homebound delivery?

Call the library at (308) 436-7433 to request homebound delivery. You will need a Gering Public Library card in order to receive this service.

What is the cost for homebound delivery?

There is no cost for homebound delivery. However, if you wish to give a donation to the Friends of the Library, you would be welcome to do so.

How will the items be selected for me?

When you are first approved for this service, a staff member will contact you to discuss authors, genres, themes, and material types that you enjoy. A staff member will then find items that best match those criteria and gather up the amount you have requested for delivery.

How long will it take before I receive the books I’ve requested?

Your items will be delivered at our earliest convenience. If you want them by a certain day, please give us at least a week’s notice.

Can I return books with homebound delivery?

Yes. Just let the staff member who delivers your books know that you have books to return and they will collect them before they leave.

How often can I get different books with homebound delivery?

There is no specific limit on how often you can receive deliveries, but we ask that you don’t request delivery more than once per month.
